ABOUT ME

Abdulsamet Ölçek received his Bachelor's degree in Public Administration and Political Science from Hitit University in 2021 and his Master's degree in Political and Social Sciences from Hitit University in 2025. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies in Political Science and is undertaking an Erasmus+ internship at Warmia and Mazury University. His Master's thesis (2025) is titled “The Effects of the Commodification of Animals on Animal Welfare: A Study on the Food, Tourism and Fashion Sectors”. He is also the author of the article “Anti-HEPP Initiatives in Türkiye as an Example of Environmental Movement” (2022), which examines grassroots environmental resistance in the context of neoliberal development policies in Turkey. His broader research interests include Marxist political theory, neoliberalism, citizenship, animal ethics, and environmental movements. Ölçek completed an Erasmus+ internship at the University of Zielona Góra in Poland and an Erasmus+ training at the Lithuanian University of Applied Sciences. My academic approach combines critical theory with empirical research to examine how neoliberal structures reinforce class inequalities and shape the discourse of citizenship and welfare. My latest work, *Animal Misery* (2025), has been published. In this work, I expand on my master's thesis to delve deeper into the intersection between capitalism, commodification, and animal suffering. The book aims to analyze how animals are commodified within economic systems, drawing attention to the ethical and social problems that this process creates.
